QM2 Independence Day July 1 2009 - Roll Call

Yeah lets start wheelbarrow races across the Queen's Room dance floor, I'm sure the other guest would just love that!


If some of you would like exploring with a purpose I'll come up with a game for that first afternoon to that effect. The ship is large and it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. The ship gives tours too but they wouldn't be as fun (I know because I took a mandatory one!)

Ron, Just tell the kids that it isn't so much about what they are doing as it is a chance to do something with other people their age and get to know them through an activity. Or you can tell your son the fun is in the SPORT of running around to WIN a prize and for your daugther it is all about ACTING the part of noble spy OK, OK so maybe it has been a long time since I was a "Cool Teenager" we'll come up with something.

Hey, Ron...I love the idea of the NYC + duct tape; but even better the thought of Nina with 3 teens @ the same time.

Nina - that sounds like a wonderful idea!! Especially for any of us that are new to the ship!!!

Scavenger/Treasure Hunts are always fun, and great ways to learn the ship's lay out. And knowing Nina, it'll be a ton of fun!!

Let's just say I'm glad it's a long way's off! My DH is from a really big family, right now his parents are dealing with having 4 yes FOUR girls ages 13-19 at home....let's just say I don't envy them! (All fairness to the girls they try hard to be good and are terrific babysitters)


Since the hunt seems to be a popular idea I'll start getting ideas for it. I'm planning for everyone to be checked in and on the ship by 12:30-1:00pm so will plan it for 2:30pm this will give everyone some time to drop their bags, eat something and explore the ship before the muster drill. How does that sound to everyone?

Yup. After a 4 hour drive to NYC, check in, pigging out for lunch, and a scavenger hunt, I'll really need that nap!

I am all for taking a nap.

I hope you will give those of us who don't know the ship well some hints? We will do it.

How are the transfers working from the hotel to the ship? Just curious.

We have about 85 people going right now and most coming from the Hyatt so I have contracted two large motorcoaches to take us from the hotel to the ship and plan on pulling away from the Hyatt at 11:30am if not a little earlier.

I agree, by the time muster drill is over I'm going to put all the kids down for a nap and then sit out on the balcony for a quiet doze before the fiasco of getting everyone dressed for dinner!

I'll be napping DURING the muster drill (yup, that'll be me, in life jacket on deck, eyes closed).

If I remember correctly, you won't be on deck. You'll be in a lounge somewhere. I don't remember being lined-up against a wall while on the QM2.

I'm sure we'll wake up when we hit the cold water (as they throw us overboard).

Thanks Nina for coming up with the scavenger hunt. Not in it to win, just to explore the ship more thoroughly than I might on my own.

All for indoor muster drills! Standing in line against a wall with all of the other passengers, certainly not my idea of fun!

Do I take it that this is the First Time a Cruise Freek group has invaded a Cunard ship ?
I hope it will not be the last becasue of the wheelbarrow race

It won't be the last for Cruise Freeks ... but it may be the one and only for Pete, Nick and Ron.

We will have to formerly disown them I guess , make them walk the plank ?
