PostSubject: I have a toy poodle "Tuffy"   Dog Lovers Forum - Page 2 Icon_minitimeSat Dec 20, 2008 12:05 am

I just spotted this topic, and I am a real dog lover. I have a Black toy poodle that we named "Tuffy" He is 2 1/2 now and so much fun. He really wishes he had a kid to play with instead of his old mommy & daddy. Dogs are such good companions, and Tuffy is surely missed when we cruise, but we do have wonderful friends that come and stay with him in our home. We are very lucky! Anybody else have a toy poodle?javascript:emoticonp('DoggieBreak')

We have a 3 yr old Beagle, Abby who is wonderful with the kids. I wish I had family nearby to watch her when we go out of town. I love taking afternoon naps (which are rare) with Abby snuggled next to me.

i had an afghan - chewy - for 8 years. that dog just loved me. i don't know why because my husband gets home before me and he gets up in the morning before me so he fed her, let her out. but as soon as i got home it was like i hung the moon for that dog. then when she was about 5 a dog just wandered up the road and stayed and they were the best of friends. i actually took to dog to the animal shelter when he first came because i thought maybe someone was looking for him and it turns out that i learned that people here at the shore come and stay for the summer and when they leave at then end of summer they leave their pets here too. i could never do that. i ended up having to put him down after about 3 years (he was already old when he got to my house) and chewy didn't last much longer after him. so finally after a year i went to a shelter and got another insane dog that is really a great dog if he didn't have allergies. i got a t-shirt that said my mommy spent her tax stimulus at the vet!

Wow, how could anyone leave their pet behind? That is sad. If I could find a way to ride a dog on my Harley, I would get another one! Since the kids all moved out, we like to travel on the bikes, and it just wouldn't be fair to have a dog right now. So I puppysit all the time to get my fill!

Well I am glad I found this thread. I love dogs. I have 3 pound pups. Skyler (11) Lab/Shephard mix, Chrissy (4) Terrier/? mix, and our new addition Sapphire(3months) German Shephard/Rottie/Chow mix. Funny Staci and Lexi went to the pound to find a cat and came home with Sapphire. Staci said she wanted a lap dog and this one was so small and cute. Well she was only 8 weeks old. lol. I took her to the vet and they told me she was a Rottie/Shephard mix and would be 100 pounds. lol. Well she wanted a lap dog but she got a dog with a lap!

Ron..

Talking about lap dogs...when ours were pups they did sit in our laps (I actually have a pic with both in my lap). Well 2 years later they still have the lap dog mentality and now one is 90 pounds and the other 100+ pounds. Great that you gave yours a chance being that they are pound rescue dogs. Bravo for you!!!!

ron - about a year after i lost my last shelter dog i started going to the pounds in all the counties around here. and my husband would say why are we doing this if you swore you were never getting another animal? and i would be oh we're just looking. and every weekend we'd go back. so i went to this place called popcorn park zoo that takes in all kinds of abandoned, wounded animals and has a dog and cat shelter too. and each week i would go to the small dog room and the lady wouldn't let me in to touch the pets. she had this complex like they were hers. so after about the 4th trip i was talking to myself as i was leaving and the girl at the front desk said what's wrong. and i screamed at her that the dog nazi wouldn't let me touch the pets again. so she said what are you looking for and i told her something small and housetrained. well he was housetrained but had such severe allergies (not disclosed to me) that the steroids he's on has blown him up like a tick and he weighs a ton for a small dog. spent a fortune getting him to stop itching - like my whole tax rebate. please don't tell my husband!

I promise your secret is safe with me. If I had the money and a fenced in back yard I would have at least a dozen dogs by now. I have to keep in mind that my puppy is going to grow up to be a little monster. Staci gets onto me because I let her jump up on me and chase the cat. She reminds me that one day that dog will be able to stand on her hind legs and look me in the eye. Then it wont be so ok. However, I do look forward to the day she can chase the cat and actually catch him. shhhhhh don't tell Staci I said that.

We go to my friend Pat's house all the time and her 'buppie' (Grizzie)as she calls him is just so lovable. Last cruise we went on we went to the cruise port together and first stop we had to make was at the kennel to pick him up and then they drove us home. When Pat got him from the shelter he was 3 so who knows why a person has to put their dog in a pound after having them for 3 years. But I hear stories now with the economy how people are putting their dogs in because they can't afford the vet bills, etc. I know Pat would live in a car but she'd be sitting there with Grizzie in the back seat.
