JUST AN IDEA would anyone be interested in a cruise on the Great Lakes? PETE HELP ME HERE. I HAVE looked at the pricing and it is a bit expensive since it is within the US only (and a bit of Canada). But to benefit Operationhopefloats?? Please think about it.

Ummm, cruising without casinos? Thanks but no thanks. Nicky boy needs to make his donation to the cruise lines on a regular basis - usually playing Black Jack or slots like Video Poker Razz

I looked into it years ago and filed away somewhere is the information
I cannot seem to locate. My memory is fuzzy but I shall repeat what
can be recalled. There were two lines which interested me. One sailed
from {Chicago/} and hit all but Superior and after taking some
canals ended up in NYC via the Hudson. The other sailed from down
by Niagara Falls up to Quebec City and I believe back again.

I found the pricing to be equal to that of a Cunard East/West crossing.
In light of that we decided to wait and see if the Canadian Dollar gets weaker
to defray the cost of the cruise. Curiously, we own a houseboat and in theory
could sail it ourselves with the 4 children which is also an option.

Either way it is an awesome cruise and would be both educational and fun.

Oh can I be the resident expert on the Port of Chicago? I looked into it one and I'd love to cruise without flying but if I remember correctly the cost is pretty high.

I love Lake Superior! The water is coooooooooooold! I swam anyway...and the water temp was around 52F at the height of summer.

Sounds cool though. Post some links....I've never looked into this...

I'm on Lake Ontario - we had this 'fast ferry' thing working for a year or so - that went back & forth to Toronto.. didn't last very long.. very mis-managed.

Nick,

There are a few casinos you could visit on a shore excursion. Though I don't know that I would really want to stop in Gary or Detroit.

No worse than the person that wanted an oceanview room in Orlando. When told that Orlando was in the middle of the state and not on the ocean, insisted it was possible since she had looked at a map, and Florida is a very thin State.

WHEN I WENT ON I THINK MY LAST CRUISE I GOT QUOTES FROM CRUISECOMPETE. MOST OF THEM WERE LIKE $1300 PER PERSON BUT ONE OF THEM WAS $2500 PER PERSON. NOW THE CRUISE LEFT FORM BAYONNE AND I LIVE IN NJ. SO I EMAILED THE TA AND SAID HOW DO YOU GET $2500 PER PERSON. SHE ANSWERED THAT IT INCLUDED AIR FARE. DRIVE FROM NJ TO PHILA AND THEN TAKE A PLANE TO NEWARK AND CAB TO BAYONNE. IT WAS A 1-1/2 HOUR DRIVE FROM MY HOUSE TO BAYONNE - HER WAY WAS 8 HOURS AND $1200 PER PERSON.
