| I never took Spanish in school, but my children did. I helped them to study. they taught me to say "how do you say ________ in spanish?" <--in Spanish I can still say it, but lord knows I have no clue how to spell it! Maybe I'll pick up some more here. I do like going to the translator sites online that talk to you. I did that for the Italy clues...that was fun. And something Gaelic that was posted somewhere on the boards here so I knew what it meant. Mostly I should just stick to English - I have enough trouble with that! LOL Anyway - Welcome & have fun, Candy! Your twins are adorable! | |

| Hi Candy, I think it would be helpful to all of us who travel to any spanish speaking countries to know how to greet people, local customs, and useful phrases in spanish such as "How much does that cost? Where is the restroom? Where is the nearest restaurant? . I think it is really helpful to try and read sentences and menu items in other languages. It also helps people to see how something is pronounced phonetically. I think people always appreciate it if you try and attempt their country's language. I'm sure there are plenty of people on the boards who will have great suggestions for this site. Have a nice evening. Tener una buena noche. |

| Hi Candy & bienveniedo! Hope I spelled that right! My HS & college Spanish is really rusty at best. Had a few reminders when older kids took it in HS, but they didn't stick with it. Younger ds is now taking French in middle school, so no refreshers from him. One child left...maybe she'll take Spanish in middle school! Buenos noches Towanda | |

| Thanks for the suggestions! Okay, I will translate your suggestions, KK, and write them out phonetically: How does that cost? - ¿Cuánto cuesto? (KWAN-toh KWAY-stoh) * Or you can jsut say "¿Cuánto? " Where is the bathroom? - ¿Dónde está el baño? (DOHN-day ess-TAH el BAHN-yo) Where is the nearest restaurant? - ¿Dónde está el más cercano restaurante? (DOHN-day ess-TAH el mahs sir-CAN-oh rest-oh-rahn-tay) If you noticed, "Dónde está..." is how you ask "where is..." You can use Dónde está for places, people and things. Let's have a quiz. Write down the location that you think I am asking for. I will give the answers tomorrow evening: 1. ¿Dónde está el aeropuerto? 2. ¿Dónde está un hotel bueno? 3. ¿Dónde está la estación? 4. ¿Dónde está la playa? 5. ¿Dónde está una iglesia? And, for extra credit.... ¿Dónde está mi esposo? (Because, ladies, we all lose them every now and again...) Have a good night! Candy | |

| I have never taken Spanish anywhere so those phrases are great especially the phonetic spelling. I have just started taking Argentine Tango lessons and all the figures are known by Spanish names, so I have I have picked up some unusual spanish words that mishe be difficult to put into converation like Gancho ( Hook ) . | |
