| Our Oasis cruise next April stops in Nassau. We have been to Atlantis twice on land vacations. I was wondering if any of you have any other suggestions/ideas of what else there is to do there? Anything else that is a "must-see" ? What excursions did you do there? |

| We went for a walk inland from the dock. The poverty just a few streets back was shocking. If you want something different from a typical tourist view try that. Or rent small motor bikes and do it that way. | |

| Jackie - Here is the most fun thing to do! This is what we did a couple of years ago...quite by accident. Go to Burger King - just a few short blocks from the dock - and have them make you an iced coffee. They have no clue! We had those girls acting like I was asking for dragon slime in a cup! OMG, we had soo much fun with that. They had never heard of such a thing!.. I just asked them to make a regular cup of coffee.. then fill a larger cup 1/2 way w/ ice. She goes "what are you going to do with that??" So, I showed her... and she goes "are you going to DRINK that???" She had to call her friend over...told her all about it. I told them they Must try it - they gave me a look like I had rocks for brains! I tell you it was the MOST fun thing ever...and it wasn't even planned! Thanks for letting me remember that and share. | |

| For the most part, Nassau is a "must-miss" port for me. If you want to get off the ship, the Pirates of the Caribbean is decent, especially if you have 10 - 14 year old boys with you. Right down the street from that is a very old church with lots of stained glass. It was quite interesting to see. Other than that, there are a few blocks worth shops that are the same as every other Caribbean port, and lots of women that want to braid your hair.
The next time my ship is in Nassau, I think I'll pretend it is a sea day and enjoy the relatively empty ship. | |

| I have been to Nassau at least 30 times and unlike most,I dont mind it at all.......if you want pretty and no poverty, stay home........most if not all, islands have some sort of poverty, but hey,its their life.
Things we have done:
Snorkel with the sharks(Stuarts Cove)
take the jitney($1.50) to Cable Beach and walk thru the hotels/casinos there.......
or take the jitney to the Paradise Island Bridge.......eat some VERY fresh conch salad and fritters there..............then walk over the bridge to Atlantis....
Do a walking tour of the are near town.........see the Queens staircase, the fort, the library(which used to be a prison way back when),etc......
walk to Arawak Caye(or take the jitney/cab)..eat where the locals eat....twin Brothers to name one........
Go to the Pirate Museum in town............
hang out on the beach at the British Colonial Hilton(right near the pier),then stop at Senor Frogs for a drink.......
Take one of the taxi island tours for about $25......lasts about 3 hours....they take you to parts of the island and Atlantis and expalin lots........these are great if you've never been.......
I really like going to Nassau and on average go once a month. |

Earlier this month, on the Navigator, the guy at Seattles Best didnt know how to make an iced latte............he made a hot one and put ice cubes in it..............I knew when the bottom felt warm, something was not right.. |

| kathy is right - almost all those islands have poverty to some degree and they rely on us to get off the ship and do something that brings money to them. |

| It's sort of silly, but we liked the pirate museum. Last November we went to Breezes. I'm sure you could find a beach place for less than that. Towanda | |

Go to the Pirate Museum in town............ There is a fabulous - the 'locals' go there - little bar & grill right next to the Pirate Museum. As we left it, we got 'attacked' by one of the pirates. Lotsa fun! Wish I knew how to get a picture here. I would add a couple. Dan |

| Great ideas coming, thanks! I think that Pirate Museum sounds fun! Kathy, the snorkle with the sharks sounds great too! Is Stuarts Cove close to the port? We noticed the first couple of times flying into Nassau, and then driving to Atlantis, that the poverty level is quite low in alot of areas. Penny, where did you book the catmaran trip with? Pete, did you just hire a taxi at the dock? Or ship tour? My daughter loves Pirates, that maybe something to mention to her..... Keep em coming, thanks! |

| Jackie...It was a disney shore excursion. Maybe if you go on disney's cruise site and the list of excursions. There must be a bahamas tourism site with stuff like that. I'm sure there are lots of private excursions. I started going to the bahamas when I was 15..things have changed. You need to have the right attitude while traveling and make the most of things. The water is gorgeous. |

| Thank you Michele & Kathy. I also found your links over at the Nassau thread. We swam with dolphins at Chaankanaab Park, it was awesome! Where is the Blue Lagoon? I appreciate your help ladies, my daughter is a fanatic about marine animals! |
