| Pete,
We can keep him away from the fire stations if you REALLY want us to, but it'll cost you, dearly. |

| how many of you have been to ground zero? i live not that far in nj and i have not had the heart to go there. my father and brother were iron workers on the first tower and my father was there for the 'topping' of the first tower. my brothers' partner lost his firefighter brother there that day and my brothers worked as welders/burners/cutters for the first weekend as rescue workers. i worked at the trade center but quit and moved to ny about 10 years before it happened and i just can't go there. 8 years later i still tear up about it. sorry to be so depressing but just curious how many have gone and how you felt looking. it's sort of like hallowed ground to me. |

Pat, I've been there - I won't lie, it's a very, very emotional experience, especially for those of us from the immediate area of NJ/CT/NYC. I lost classmates and friends that day, and, the whole day it happened I was an emotional wreck. The guy I was dating at the time was suppose to be there for a meeting on the 107th floor. With only the good luck of a flat tire, he was late and he was just outside when the first plane hit. Due to the flood of calling, I didn't get a call from him until 1am that he was ok. If that wasn't bad enough, I have another friend who was a Police Officer who was dispatched to the area that day. Again, luckily he was ok but, he spent the entire morning searching for his Father, who was also a police officer. Thanks to the good graces of God, his Father was ok but, one of the last people out of tower one. So, for you - like me - it will probably be a very emotional experience. | |

| Tina - While I have not 'tie' to Ground Zero other than my friend Pat's anguish over it I do have a great tie to our Great Country. As my husband is a retired Naval officer when we go to the Arizona it is an amazing experience for us. Actually, when we went with Pat and her husband, i think on the boat ride over was the first time in all my years being friends with her that she was actually speechles and didn't speak barely above a whisper the whole time there. It is a very emotional experience there too. | |

| Sorry all, my laptop took a nap and I couldn't get it up and running again. As far as ground zero...I went there both this year and last. It's hard to explain but I actually felt a heavy feeling in my chest. I was talking to someone else who visited there and she felt the same. Last year was more sureal because all of the windows were blown out of the buildings surrounding it. But the small church directly behind it didn't suffer any damage. For blocks you could see window damage...but not at that church right at the site. |

| I hear you about all this.... I had that same feeling at the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. It's very moving. My father was at Iwo Jima during WWII. I tried to get him on our Hawaii cruise...but he wouldn't go. I didn't know anyone in the Towers when they were hit. I did lose 343 brothers that day, however. We ring the bell in the fire station in honor of each firefighter lost in the line of duty. It usually rings one time, every now and again. But 343 times on the same day? That is incredible, and unforgettable. I have a tough time imagining the things the victims suffered that day...and their loved ones. My heart continues to go out to them. Osama Bin Laden is still at large. I don't understand why. | |

| I have been in NYC only once since 9/11, and was barely there long enough to transfer from the airport to the cruise terminal and back. No pre or post time in the city. Next month will be the first time since 9/11 that I'll be in the city over night, May will be the 2nd time, July the 3rd time, and Dec the 4th time. - NDJollyMon wrote:

| I've been out of the loop for a while with 'puter problems and I'll never catch up so I'll just jump back in. We used to go to NYC every Christmas with teens in our Youth Group at church. We always went to the top of the WTC. I often wonder about the concession workers up ther. I'm sure they perished. We've been beack to ground zero 3 times and each time it's very emotional. Our DSIL was Fire Chief for Engine 6 in a PA town so they adopted Engine 6 in NYC and have been very close with them. When they re-dedicated their Fire House, he rode up there in their Antique Fire truck and he spoke at the dedication. |
