We just booked Carnival Splendor for July, 2008 and we need a pre-cruise hotel in London for a few nights. Any recommendations? We generally like Marriott, Hyatt, etc but, it doesn't necessarily have to be a chain hotel. Would like to be close to the West End so we can catch a show or two.

No personal recommendations right in the west end but if you want something convenient the Thistle Hotel Victoria is right next to Victoria station and within walking distance to Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Big Ben etc. Only book a room in their newly renovated Executive Wing as the others are very dated. The hotel is very old with a neat history and very friendly staff. The guest relations manager is a peach of a girl and will do whatever she can to make you comfortable.

The Langham Hotel might be one you'd like to consider, it's right in the West End.
