| I thought it was cold here, but we are only at a -2. We have a 1/2 inch layer of ice covering our trees, powerlines, ect. Factor in our winds and the temperature feels like -25, and we are having snow showers! Makes a pretty picture out there but brrrr. Even the dog hates to go out when she needs to. | |

| Well, I was wrong. It was -22F last night.
I'm not talking about windchill (or windshield as darlene calls it!)

| Okay, not quite that cold here....well, wind chill currently around -2F. Supposed to warm back to the 40's by mid-week. Looks like a wet Christmas around here this year. Towanda | |

| Looking at -50's with the windchill this week. This winter can't end soon enough. | |

| I feel for you guys way up north - down here in the Mid Atlantic it is bad enuf. Snow starting in October is so not what I wanted.
I think most of the 49 states (aloha aside) would agree this is a "real" winter and perhaps on track to be the longest of our lifetime. Time for cruises or even flying south for a cheap motel would be better. No, cruises, let's go with that. |

| I agree with AlohaTad that this is shaping up to be the true winter. Living in NC after spending 22 years in No. VA and 22+ years before that growing up in OH has been somewhat of a welcome change. It doesn't stay real cold for any length of time although they are calling for some real cold weather here by weeks end with the highs in the 20's. I do admit that I like snow and do miss it. | |

| -40F at 8:00am this morning. The best part is when people from down south ask what we do when it gets this cold. Like they think we just shutdown and hole up... then you say "we go to work like any other day". The look on their faces is priceless. | |

| Pete, Fighting a fire in this kind of weather must be bad.!! Locally a restaurant was lost because the tanker truck froze, and they had to chop a hole in a nearby creek to get water. Needless to say equipment kept freezing causing all kinds of delays. PS My Italian Greyhounds have a 20 sec window outside to do their business. | |

| Last major fire...it was -20F. We had to stop and knock the ice off our helmets every so often...because they start to weigh a ton when the ice forms. We have a truck that was just shipped back from Texas after being refurbed...they forgot to drain the water from the pumps/system. Well, it froze and broke....everything. Now it may have to be shipped BACK to Texas again! WHOOOPS! Most of us have both burn scars...and frostbite scars! And winter is much busier than summer. (except maybe for medical calls) Our dogs are quick when it's subzero. Our Boston Terrier is really a wuss. He has to wear a sweater! (don't tell Jay Leno!) | |

Yeah, the Italian Greyhounds wear them too. In fact Prada, the younger one will bring one of us her sweater to put on her if she is feeling cold.
