Penny,

It might be possible to do that - the airlines won't consider it "round trip" - when the time comes you'd have to do a "mutliple destinations" search when looking for airfare. For example LAX to JFK and then EWR back to LAX.

Thanks Susan...my airfare was included in the contest winning but I'm not sure what the restrictions are. I just wanted to get an idea on how much it would cost us.

Yes I did and I made the girls watch it too!! Hey I have two teenage girls if anyone wants to borrow them!!

Yeah, the "teen years" on Baby Borrowers would've scared anyone out of parenthood. Wink

I remember when I was in high school, and my sister had a couple of "bad" babysitting incidents next door (6 month old "cute" baby would pee on her no matter what she tried) - one day she came home and swore she'd never have kids and was going to become the first Methodist nun. Laughing She eventually recanted, but didn't have kids until her mid-20s and ironically ended up with two boys. Very Happy

Ah, then it might end up being the most reasonably priced flight available (ignoring Islip). So if it prices out comparable to fly into NYC and out of EWR, you can definitely ask for it. If the pricing is a bit higher but you're willling to pay the difference, Tina might go along with that as well.

I know next year I'm going to have to fly Nashville to Ft Lauderdale for Oasis, then FLL or Miami to NYC between Oasis and QM2, and then NYC back to Nashville after we're done on the QM2. That ought to be fun. Wink

lol. Now that's funny. I think that should be a class in high school. Let the kids be responsible for a baby for a couple of days. I was fortunate that my "kids" were almost grown up when I came into the picture. One is in college the other in high school. Don't get me wrong..it is a chore still but no diapers! I just have to deal with boyfriends...

You have a PM Susan

New York Area Airports

New York City is served by three major airports: Kennedy (JFK), LaGuardia
(LGA) and Newark (EWR). We do not recommend MacArthur Airport in
Islip, Long Island (ISP) due to it's distance from the city. The
reality is that any of the airports can services your needs and, each
has their drawbacks. The biggest problem is always traffic,
even though all three area airports are 20 miles or less from
Manhattan, it can often take an hour or more to reach Manhattan, and,
New York/New Jersey traffic is unpredictable and has no rhyme or reason.

Getting To Manhattan from the Airports

While this is your expense, it is recommended you either take a taxi or hire
a car service or shuttle service to transport you from the airport to
Manhattan. Public transportation is available but, it is not recommended since you will have luggage in tow.

From JFK (Kennedy)

  • Taxis:
$45 flat fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location. Taxis are
available outside of every terminal and there is typically a taxi stand
where you will be directed to a taxi. For destinations outside of
Manhattan, consult the TLC Fare Guide. You may also want to familiarize yourself with the Taxi Rider's Bill of Rights.
There is no additional charge for luggage and rates are based per car,
not per passenger (up to four passengers). To return to JFK from Brooklyn or Manhattan, taxis will charge you the metered rate, plus any applicable tolls.
  • Car Services:
Pre-arrange for a car service to meet you at the airport, or call one
when your flight touches down. This is a great option if you want to
avoid waiting in line for a taxi or if you have a group larger than
four people and want to arrange for a van or limousine. Try Limos.com at http://www.limos.com for free price quotes
  • Private Shuttles: Several companies offer shuttles to Manhattan, including:

    • New York Airport Service Express Bus:
      Available from 6:30 a.m. - 11:10 p.m., these shuttles leave every 15-30
minutes. Fare is $13 ($15 if you want to be dropped off at your midtown
hotel), but you can save by buying roundtrip tickets online, as they
are $22 (you can also buy discounted one way tickets online). One free
child under 12 is included in the fare. You can choose to disembark at
Grand Central, Port Authority or Penn Station, in addition to hotels
between 31st Street and 60th Street. The ride takes about an hour.
Return schedules and more information are available on their website.
    • Super Shuttle:
Available 24 hours a day, this shuttle provides door to door service
for your party. Fares are $15 - $19, depending on destination. No
reservations are required to get from the airport to your destination,
but they are required for your return trip to the airport. Consult
their website or call 1-800-258-3826 for more information.

From LaGuardia (LGA)

  • Taxis:
Metered fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location. Taxis are
available outside of every terminal and there is typically a taxi stand
where you will be directed to a taxi. For destinations outside of
Manhattan, consult the TLC Fare Guide. You may also want to familiarize yourself with the Taxi Rider's Bill of Rights. There is no additional charge for luggage and rates are based per car, not per passenger (up to four passengers).

they are $16 (you can also buy discounted one way tickets online). One

From Newark, NJ (EWR)

  • Taxis from Newark Airport:
Metered fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location, approximately
$50-75. Taxis are available outside of every terminal and there is
typically a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi. There is
an additional charge for luggage over 24 inches if the driver handles
the bags, and rates are based per car, not per passenger (up to four
    passengers).
  • Taxis to Newark Airport: Metered fare (approximately $69-75) plus return tolls and a $15 surcharge for a NYC Taxi to Newark Airport.
  • Car Services:
Pre-arrange for a car service to meet you at the airport, or call one

I'd highly recommend everyone use NEWARK (EWR) for both coming and leaving - while it is going to take you a bit longer to get into the city from Newark, it will be much easier for your flight home. If you go with JFK or LGA you're going to be holding your breath about traffic the entire time. You're much better in NJ where you have mutiple roadways to get you to the airport.

I'm not sure if Tina and Marilyn have a definite hotel yet, I know the Hilton on 6th Avenue is a strong possibility. But, figure about 15 miles from Newark airport to just about any mid-town Manhattan hotel.

Just about the same distance, roughly 15 miles - good luck getting tickets, it's nearly impossible without paying sky high rates!

And remember, it's always about traffic volume in this area, everything is really close BUT, with the amount of traffic... You're not going to get anywhere fast, ESPECIALLY during the holidays.

Well, in theory, you will be able to see it from the airplane and, if you get your own ground transportation such as car service/limo service you can request to be taken into the city via Route 3 and be sure to tell the driver that you specifically want to go pass the stadium - You can also kind of see it from the NJ Turnpike.

I really want to join this cruise. Susan Im sure if I can go more last minute you could find a way to book me right? As long as all the cabins arent sold out on the ship. I mentioned this cruise to my mom and the problem that its a little longer than other cruises, more than a week Id be gone and she said maybe we can find a way to work it out. Maybe we can get one of their neighbors to be on call in case there is a emergency. Luckily we still have plenty of time to book this one right?

Ill pick up a extra Next Cruise Certicate on the Voyager next time ..... just in case. So I can be prepared to book with Susan and this group. RCL is still the cruiseline Im trying to gather cruisepoints on as a repeat cruiser. Until Im diamond plus anyway!!!

This sounds like such a great cruise.

Actually the TA for this sailing is Marilyn Vincent of All the Best Cruises - she's the one you'll need to make arrangements with Very Happy Hope you can join the party!

I hope so too. Thanks. I thought Susan did all the RCL cruises. (sorry Susan, so you wouldnt have to put up with booking me!! Very Happy)

My Dad's age is the reason why I hate to leave home for too long. Im the only one who drives, but their neighbor has been very good to come over to visit a lot and she might agree to stand in for me. I just started asking about a longer cruise and breaking the news to my parents.

I think many of us can relate to dealing with older parents. Any chance you could bring your Dad with you? That might be a solution to your problem about leaving him alone.

Right, Marilyn is the one to contact for this sailing - although I'm doing my best to talk Susan into joining us but, she has family that may or may not be able to go but, hopefully with some luck, Susan and her family will be joining the party too!
