First Time Cunarder Questions Empty
PostSubject: First Time Cunarder Questions   First Time Cunarder Questions Icon_minitimeSun Feb 03, 2008 12:59 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm still not sure I can afford Christmas but, I'm very interested in the group 4th of July sailing in 2009. So bear with me as I start asking questions.

I know that Cunard requires a 25% deposit unless you book during a sale and then it drops to 12.5%

What I'd like to know is:

- Is Cunard on the automatic tipping system?
- How do shore tours on Cunard work? Do you book and pay in advance or is it reservations only and you pay on-board?
- Is there anything extra or different from other cruise lines that might require extra cash?

Ok that's it for now! I figure at least I can say I sailed Cunard if I book 4th of July Very Happy And it won't break my budget Embarassed

Lets Go,

Don't feel Embarassed about what you can afford. At least you have very good taste! Besides, perhaps chosing the July cruise rather than the Christmas sailing will help you be able to make the 2010 inaugural Very Happy

To answer your questions,

-Cunard does add the hotel & dining charges automaticly to your shipboard account. If you wish to tip individually, you can request that it be taken off or reduced. This does not include 15% grautity on bar and spa bills.

-Shore excursions are reserve and pay onboard. You will receive a booklet of options in your documents prior to cruising so you have time to decide what you want. Another option and one I find to usually be a better value, depending on what you are looking for, is to book through a third party such as www.shoretrips.com Just be sure to book something with plenty of time before and after the tour to allow for any delays. (ie, if you have 7 hours in port book a 4 hour tour)

-Extra costs include: Todd English, soda & alcoholic beverages, specialty coffees, the casino and shops, spa services and shore excursions. If I have forgotten anything I will post again.

Hope this helps!

You can book the tours in advance, and this is advisable as some can be very busy. We always book at least one before we travel, just so that we have something planned. If you book in advance, the amount charged is added to your shipboard account. If you decide not to take the tours, you can cancel at the tour desk 2 days before you sre due to take the tour for no charge.

I hope this helps.

(Watch this now. The prebooking will be a UK only thing.....)
