I have been asked to tell about our Silversea cruise to the Baltic.... My husband and I spent 7 nights aboard the Silversea ship "SilverWind" sailing the Baltic from Copenhagen to Stockholm last month. The ship was sailing full with it's 296 guests. The ports of call were Tallin, Estonia; three days in St. Petersburg, Russia, stop in Helsinki Finland and disembark in Stockholm Sweden.
Because of the SilverWind's small size we were able to dock close into the city of St Petersburg only a few blocks away from the Hermitage Museum. The ship offered private night tour after closing of the Hermitage and at that time also had a concert private for us as well. During the day unbelieveable heavy traffic and the lines in St Petersburg were blocks long. We avoided all of this thanks to Silversea being able to dock so close in and offering private admissions. Silversea excelled with their excursions offered in each port.
I favor casual dress while dining on my cruises but I was prepared for the several formal/semi formal dining nights on board... I did bring my "dressy things along" for the occassion. It was a fashion parade! If we didn't want to dress up we did the room service having course by course from the menu meals delivered to our room. (The suggested wine with each course as well!) I really liked the fact that when we went in the dining room no matter the time we were asked if we wanted to join someone or have someone join us at our table. We had great conversations and met some very interesting and fasincationg people this way and we dined at our own pace never rushed or interupted.
We did take the lowest cost balcony room and were very happy with it. The marbled bathrooms were oversized and the large fluffy towels made me feel REAL GOOD! The lotions and potions they offer made me feel as I was in a spa each day!
The food menu choices were outstanding! The wine choices were outstanding! The Service was outstanding. The accommodation was outstanding. The Beds were outstanding! The cost was as high as my expectations and Silversea did meet every expectation I had. I even wrote some letters on my own personalized Silversea stationary! My high speed internet connection in our room kept me intouch with reality as well! (We were in St Petersburg when Russia went into Georgia! Interesting conversations were had)
I won $250 jackpot on the slots while on board and Texas Holdem was my husbands game of choice in the casino. I was happpy because my favorite card game, BRIDGE, was offered on board as well. The evening entertainment consisted of a group of Russian Dancers/singers one evening, a magician, a pianist, and the cruise director was a talented singer as well.
Silversea is known to be a high end all inclusive cruiseline. It was very nice not to have to think about the cost of a drink, the cost of a bottle of water, paying gratuities, paying for the mini bar that was stocked with our favorite drinks, or even the specialty restaurants while we were on Silversea were included. They had an included complimentary excursion called the "Silversea experience" as well. AND they provided popcorn for us while we watched the movie in our room!
This was our second voyage on Silversea. I hope I didn't bore you. My 21 years as owner of a cruise travel agency and the cruises I have taken during that time have taught me that there is A RIGHT cruiseline for everyone! Making sure those folks get on the right one is crucial to the traveler. Silversea is a keeper for me and yes there are other folks that may consider it a "keeper" too. My experience on Silversea was over the top!
