Has anyone thought about setting up a special cruise to take
Grandkids?

I know it would be a challenge keeping up with them, but also fun

that would be great. a friend of mine has a grandchildrens picnic every year and every year when we go to myrtle beach the first week everyone brings their kids and grandkids. they love the lazy river, ocean, kids pools. that's a good idea aurea.

should check out the freedom class on rccl. michele's review convinced me to book my 10 year old niece on it for 3/28/10. her review showed how kid-friendly those class ships are.

i reserved the 3/28/10 from jeanie beck - she couldn't be nicer. i think i paid 950 per person for interior and my friend is getting oceanview for i think 1065 per person and it includes taxes and government fees, etc. it's the week of good friday and it's far enough away for me to start saving and i check all the time to see if the price drops and then i'll call jeanie when that happens (hopefully it will) and she'll get us all the discount

i wonder if you get better deals waiting until the last minute or doing it like i do - book a year in advance and check every day to see if it drops.

This sounds like a great idea. In fact, my husband & I have discoussed this at length.
Unfortunately, unless (or untill) we win the lottery there's no way we could afford to take all 5 kids & their families on any cruise (and we are not crazy enough to even consider taking 7 grandkids w/out their parents!).
We'll just keep it to the backyard, park & up at camp @ Old Forge....and that's 1 or 2 families at a time.
My husband says "thought that's why we TAKE a vacation - to get a break????? "

Very Happy

At some point I want to set up a "Family Cruise" - so that would include Grandkids.

Yes, for my kids, Royal Caribbean is the only way to go. My 4 year old does say she likes the "Pirate Ship slide" in Disney's kids club. But yes, my kids ask when is our next "Rewel Caribeeean"

Pat - Royal Caribbean honors price drops. Just not "New Booking Sale" price drops. So I always book wayyyy in advance. Did you see the new Cruise Shark program on CC? A member there created it. It constantly monitors the prices on Royal Caribbean and pops up when there is a price drop on your cruise. I have the program running on my Majesty Cruise. Great program! It's free and he is testing it now.

It's here...

aurea - have you been on the freedom class ships on royal caribbean? i have not yet so i am totally looking forward to my march '10 trip. i bought those walkie talkies the other day because i know she will want to go to kids kamp but that way when she wants to come down and be with me she can call me. and i don't want her to panic if we get separated so she'll be able to get me.

Hey Pat, if the walkie talkies don't work on the ship (they have been known to be overused and hard to get a free channel), then you can go to Customer Relations desk and rent Dect Phones. They work just like cell phones. But only work on the ship. I think it started at $25 for them.

We are bringing our grand daughter on the ZOO CREW cruise.
It'll be her very first cruise, and we'll be together for Christmas.

You can have a great family cruise on many lines, not just Disney! Princess is one of my favorites, and Norwegian and Carnival are also good for kids. Many cruise lines are now offering promotions designed for families as well. Just make sure that whatever ship you choose has a lot of quad cabins, as many families with younger kids will all want to stay together in one room.

Carnival now has some great rooms designed for families of 5! Have you heard about their staterooms with 2 bathrooms? What more could a family ask for!
