Direct from Nina:
Update...
Bennet has been making great progress! He is managing his body
temperature well, gaining weight (he is now 5lbs 8oz!!) and starting to
get the hang of the bottle and nursing. I would say he is about half
way to his goal point for feedings. He even finished one whole bottle
in one sitting yesterday, a whole 50ml! He is off the nasal cannula and
his breathing has been a lot better the last couple days with only a
very few small desaturations of oxygen and heart rate dips.
He had his first real bath yesterday and it was so great to hold him with
out any wires tying him to a machine! It felt so FREE and I took him
around the room in a little dance of joy after his bath before hooking
him all back up. He enjoyed his bath with all the nice warm water and
especially likes having his hair washed
He was wide awake and very
alert which made for a very special time for both of us.
He had a series of 3 hearing tests over the last couple of days. The first
two his right ear passed but it wasn't until the third test yesterday
that his left ear passed. I still haven't seen the doctor to ask if
this is a concern but I am going to assume not since they have not
alerted me to any possible problems.
He was a little congested a few times yesterday and was sneezing a lot he also has been having
reflux so please pray that these things don't turn into anything
serious. The congestion and sneezing could just be from a little milk
getting into his sinuses from the reflux or it could be a developing
cold. I am really hoping it is not a cold because that is very
dangerous for preemies.
Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers, it has been a long 3 weeks already and we are looking at at least
another week yet but we are doing well thanks to all of the wonderful support!
