| Since no one else is stepping up to the plate, I'll get things rolling. This is a poll to find out how many are interested in a pre-cruise event. This could be at a restaraunt, outside at a park or even at one of the hotels. If you have an idea, please suggest it. This poll is merely go get an interest count and see if we can get our collective creative juices flowing. | |

| Good idea starting this poll - I love the party at a hotel with a DJ idea! We must be on the same wavelength Loyal Caribbean, I took it upon myself to go to hotelplanner.com which is a site where you can get group hotel rates and I explained we'll be a large group, and that we'll probably need between 75 to 125 rooms, and, that we don't have an exact date yet for the sailing but that we'll be coming for the Inaugural sailing of Royal Caribbean Genesis and this is the response so far: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriott North is offering $159 per night plus taxes
Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL [ Suburban] Map

Rate: $159.00 USD per night + taxes

Policies: Group must book rooms no later than 30 days before check-in. | If it turns out to be a Western Caribbean Itinerary for the Inaugural, how about a Mexican/Tex-Mex theme - we could do burgers, hot dogs and a taco station

That's a fun theme Andrew - wonder how much a Mariachi band would run us - that would really make it fun. If it's an Eastern Caribbean Itinerary maybe we could do a Jimmy Buffet theme - "Cheeseburgers in Paradise" and all

| I say have the party one of the hotels. This way even if it rains, we won't have the party spoiled or worse have to cancel it.
We can do a cash bar, this way everyone is responsible for his or her own drinking. And so far both themes - Mexican/Tex-Mex and Jimmy Buffet sound like fun. I think we should go for some type of music - DJ, band, etc. If we're going to party, let's party!
Great job in getting rate estimates from the hotels Donna!

Anyhow, I vote also for an indoor party at one of the hotels. Again because there is always the chance of rain, and, this way it can't be cancelled due to weather.
Do we have estimates for party expenses yet?

| I have a feeling it's going to be a Western Caribbean cruise especially since they made a big deal about Jamaica getting a new pier that could accommodate Genesis.
Love the party at the hotel idea - both Mexican and Jimmy Buffet themes are good. Have no idea what the party will cost but, this is a once in a lifetime event, I wouldn't mind paying $40 or so per person.
Love the cruise theme backdrops and we HAVE to get that life preserver!!

Ultimately the Admin and I will solidify the plans ... until we have a cruise date it's impossible to get solid commitments out of hotels or other venues. But if the group is excited and revved up and wants to start brainstorming ideas, we aren't going to stop them. We're all excited about this cruise and the suspense is killing us all. Obviously we ask that no one make commitments on behalf of the group, we'll take care of all that (hotel, party planning, group transportation to the pier, other fun stuff, etc.) ... but don't hold back on any ideas that you may have!! - Quote :

Unforunately, until we have a specific location and date, no estimates on party expenses. Once we know where we are staying (i.e. hotel/s) we can start negotiating the costs for a DJ and for catering, etc. |

| I have no idea how the food is from this place but, it's just a way for us to see the cost of catering: http://www.bocajoescatering.com/BBQ Package is $13.95 per person with 25 people minimum http://www.bocajoescatering.com/barbeque-packages.htmlI'm sure there are other catering places, this was the only one I could find in the basic area that didn't have there menus in pdf form but, at least it's some place to start with pricing. | |

| I'm the majority so far, let's have a party at one of the hotels with music, food and the works. Loyal Caribbean, I don't know where you found those party props but, they're perfect! I'm glad you book marked the page. Can you imagine the look on the face of the CC folks when they see that big life preserver that says "Welcome Cruise Freek Forums"!! I would imagine LS and her followers will have their mouths hanging open | |

I agree - I think we should have staples like hamburgers and hot dogs, then maybe two or three more choices like coconut shrimp, baked ziti and jerk chicken and lots of good appetitizers like mozzerella sticks, cocktail meatballs, peel and eat shrimp cocktail, and of course a few vegetarian choices like bean salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, etc and then I see Boca Joes has a Veinnese Table available for dessert: http://www.bocajoescatering.com/menu_desserts.html but, I also think a couple of sheet cakes might be nice too - meaning in addition to the veinnese table, not instead of... What does everyone else think?
