| Does anyone have any family history stories related to the Titanic ? I have one to kick this off. Courtesy of my cousin in San Francisco. When her grandparents Emigrated from Britain to the States. Her grandfather came over several months earlier than the rest of the family. Her Grandmother was due to join him on the Titanic's maiden voyage. However a young unamed person (we never found out who) with connections to the royal family needed a chaperon for a subsequent transatlantic crossing and my cousin's Grandmother was asked if she would delay her trip to serve as the chaperon. She did of course otherwise my cousin would not be here to tell me about it. Anyone else have a family story to share ? | |

| Umm...does this count?? My son loves all things Titanic. We went to some museum - I think it was in Rhode Island? We had a good time. He bought a newspaper "from the day the Titanic sank" ...he was disapointed years later (when he was oh so much older & wiser) to discover that the paper he bought was not THE original one! LOL Does that qualify for this thread? Sorry - best I got to work with. | |

| None of my grandparents were born yet when Titanic met her demise. I don't believe any of my great grandparents sailed on her and since my grandparents have all passed, I can not ask them. But I think if there was some exciting history like Titantic in my family, I probably would have heard about it. | |

| We had a myth in my wife's family that their great grandfather was an officer who went down with the Titanic. When I developed an interest in genealogy and started research I actually discovered he was a stoker on the British warship HMS Goliath that was sunk in the Dardanelles in the first world war. Died serving his country. An even better story I felt. | |

| Wow that's a cool story! No exciting family stories on my side, but my husband's great Uncle was Ludwig Beck who was part of the plot to kill Hitler. He was portrayed in the movie Valkyrie. | |

| I did not know this but the RMS Carpathia which rescued Titantic passengers was hit by a German torpedo and sank off the coast of Ireland in 1918. | |

| More of a coincidence than a story but we started a transatlantic cruise on April 15, 2007 which was the 95th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and our first port was Cobh, Ireland which was the last port for the Titanic. We had extremely bad weather on our crossing, the "Welcome Aboard" part was held on day 5 instead of day 2 but all in all the Jewel of the Seas made a better go if it than the Titanic. |
